calculation of production loss in the Tagus river basin
Location: Río Tajo
Year: 2023
Client: Naturgy
Subsequently, in 2023, Naturgy hired us again to carry out a similar analysis of the Tagus basin but in this case, we did not limit ourselves to evaluate the economic loss that would result from the implementation of the ecological flows in the hydroelectric reservoirs of Entrepeñas, Buendía, Zorita, Almoguera and Castrejón, but we also analyzed the most optimal flow reports proposed by the company EAFOR, which have less impact on the habitat of the riverbed, Buendía, Zorita, Almoguera and Castrejón reservoirs, but we also analyze the most optimal flow reports proposed by the company EAFOR, which have less impact on the habitat of the riverbed and with lower energy losses for the company Naturgy.
Thus, in this case, a double calculation of energy production is made, one by comparing the actual production collected between 2016 and 2021 against that which would be obtained by implementing the flows required in the new Hydrological Plan, and another calculation, comparing this actual production against the flows proposed by the company EAFOR:
Based on this analysis it is obtained that, compared to the 44 GWh lost with the implementation of the new Hydrological Plan, with EAFOR’s proposal, only 6.6 GWh would be lost, which would mean a reduction in the economic impact suffered by Naturgy of 2,504,000 €.
