On 20/01/2021 a gas explosion occurred in the Virgen de La Paloma y San Pedro el Real parish church located on Toledo Street in Madrid.
The explosion was caused by the accumulation of gas on the upper floors, bursting the roof and a large part of the facade, projecting the debris against the adjacent buildings and the public road.

The explosion resulted in the death of 4 people, injuries of varying degrees to another 11 people, multiple serious damages to the building, and various damages to neighbouring buildings and 16 vehicles in the vicinity, as well as to street furniture. Expert technical advice to the legal services of QBE, the Civil Liability insurer of Canal de Isabel II. Investigation and evaluation of the scenarios of possible causes of the explosion and economic quantification of the damage associated with the incident, amounting to around €4,000,000. This amount includes the material damage caused to the damaged building itself.
